So the day is nearly here. Bags packed, unpacked and re-packed again, many times over and over!
Left home around 2.30 and had a slow walk to Furze Platt train station to get the 3.17 to Maidenhead. Took the train to Reading and then changed for the Bournemouth train which stopped at Winchester. Trains were all very, very busy and we had to stand the whole way, but it was a Friday afternoon, so not unexpected.
After arriving at Winchester we had a 1 mile walk through town to the Premier Inn. Checked in and then headed off to a pub we had found which looked good, the Golden Lion. And what a find, the food was fantastic! Flat iron steak and vine tomatoes, and pan fried lambs liver with crispy bacon, mash, veg and onion gravy. Delicious!! Not that we needed it but we treated ourselves to puddings as well. Lemon sponge cake and custard, and a treacle tart and custard. This hike could turn into a food review session!
Needing to walk off our food we had a leisurely wander around the town taking in Winchester Cathedral and the high street. Looks like our legs have stretched already 😂
