Day 2 of the South Downs Way. A day of heat, humidity and hills, and plenty of them all!
14.5 miles and 1800 feet of elevation.
We left early in dull cloud, but still very humid. Hills came thick and fast, Old Winchester Hill first was very long and steep, finishing with a long narrow steep path, very uneven hard ground with lots of boulders.
Cold drinks and cake were consumed at East Meon fly fishing cafe with some running repairs to feet, some dodgy blisters starting with all the hard paths.
Lunch stop at The Sustainability Centre was the half way point, sun now out and very warm.
Butser Hill National Nature Reserve at 10 miles was another huge hill, but we were rewarded coming down the other side with some fantastic views of the A3!
We crossed under the A3 and headed through Queen Elizabeth Country Park through the woods in the shade, and then another 1.5 miles uphill.
Finally made it to the top and then a half mile descent down to our AirBnB. Very tough day, but some amazing scenery, thankfully not as many hills tomorrow 🤞
