Day 8, Final day Alfriston to Eastbourne

Day 8 Final day!

Our last day on this amazing trail.. few spots of rain at 6.15, and the wind had also picked up.
Breakfast out of a packet wasn’t great, so we packed up and left Alfriston camp site on slightly empty stomachs at 8.30.
We knew there would be plenty of places to stop, the first one at 3 miles.

We left Alfriston passing all the pubs that were fully booked (hence the camping) and followed the Cuckmere River for a while, on grass and on flat ground, lovely.
Headed out towards Seven Sisters Country Park, up 2 massive sets of wooden steps, just what we like 😁
Soon, we were at Seven Sisters Country Park Vistor Centre for tea, flapjack, and some jelly babies, certainly required.
We bumped into our other crazy south down walking friends, and walked for a couple of miles together.

And then we were on the coast and walking over the Seven (seemed like Seventeen!) Sisters, and boy was it windy, like blowing a gale, at least it was behind us.

After a couple of the sisters we came to National Trust at Birling Gap (about 8 miles) for some more food, another baked potato with tuna mayo and a Cornish pasty, with some banana bread to go.

We cracked on, hoping the dark clouds wouldn’t  turn into rain, which thankfully they didn’t.
On past Beach Head Cafe, still blowing a gale, on past all the tourists taking all sorts of risks near the edge just to get a good pose for their social media stream 🙄

On past a commemorative plaque to those who lost their lives in WW2.
And then we were into the final stretch, although, of course, not before one last hill to really finish us off.

And we were done. We had finally made it to the official end of the trail.

100 miles and 8 days later.

Actually, with walking to accommodation and camps, it’s 109.41 miles, with an elevation gain of 14,425 feet, a total duration of 43 hours, 38 minutes. Even I can’t comprehend those numbers 🤪

What an incredible adventure, way harder than I had imagined, but also much more beautiful. Although we had some blisteringly hot days, we had good weather, very lucky.

Thank you to Kim Bristow for coming with me and putting up with my crazy ideas, even when the going got tough

Thank you to all of you for all your comments, and good wishes that spurred us along our journey, and thank you to everyone who has sponsored us 🥰 We have smashed our fundraising target, currently we are at £2061 which is just fantastic 😊

We’re off for some well earned Fish ‘n’ Chips and a beer 🐠🍟🍻

Thank you for listening, until the next time 🤣🤣🤣
